Summary:
- In the OT tithing was a covenant man made with God to revert the curse pronounced on the earth
- In the OT tithing was a law God established to govern his people
- In Malachi God is asking us to test Him by giving our tithes to see if He will not pour the blessings by opening the windows of heaven
- In the NT every time when we exchange tithe, we re-activate the covenant blessing of God that He promised to Abraham
- When Christ died at the cross, He broke the curse of the law, but He didn't dismantle the covenant which God made with man. The covenant was made 430 years before the law was written
- Under the new covenant, we are not obligated to give 10%, but tithing helps us to maintain a minimum level of giving
- Under new covenant the expectation of giving varies 10% being the minimum and it can go even to 100% as God demands in some cases
- Tithing is an act of faith that enables God to open the windows of heaven and pour supernatural blessings on us
